Sustainability

We grow the grain, that feeds the hens, that lay the eggs fresh for you.

At Bowalley Free Range we have adopted a more sustainable operations model — eggs produced in a self-contained, vertically integrated farming system near Maheno in North Otago.

Our philosophy aligns with regenerative agriculture and our customers' changing values. We are committed to sustainable land management and a satisfying paddock-to-plate experience.

Practices on the farm

  • Solar panels power the hen sheds, helping the farm operate off the grid
  • Sheds on skids move after each flock rotation to rest the land
  • On-farm grain reduces transport, fuel, and duplicated assets; hen manure fertilises crops naturally
  • Sheep graze range areas as a sustainable pasture management method
  • HydroDrive irrigation uses excess water pressure to power pivot movement
  • Packaging is made from 100% recycled materials and is compostable
